WHY ORAL SURGERY?

What exactly does an Oral & Maxillofacial Surgeon do?

As an oral surgeon, Dr. Shrewsberry focuses on treating problems related to the hard and soft tissues of the face, mouth and jaws. Dr. Shrewsberry performs complex tooth extractions, such as wisdom teeth or any impacted tooth. Oral surgeons are also the specialists when it comes to restorative dental work, including the placement of dental implants. Depending on the condition of the jaw, Dr. Shrewsberry can also perform a bone grafting procedure to ensure proper placement of the implants. In addition to these common procedures, Huntsville Oral Surgery has been called on to consult with cases of obstructive sleep apnea, facial pain and infection, biopsies and removal of lesions, and the diagnosis and treatment of some oral cancers. Dr. Shrewsberry has also undergone extensive anesthesia training and can therefore offer Huntsville Oral Surgery patients IV sedation to optimize their comfort during the procedure. The extensive clinical experience Dr. Shrewsberry brings to Huntsville Oral Surgery patients can provide help when it's needed most.

Why should you choose a Board Certified Oral Surgeon?

Oral and maxillofacial surgery (OMFS) is a surgical specialty built upon the foundation of dentistry. After completion of dental school, the specialty of OMFS requires an extensive hospital-based residency program ranging from 4-6 years. During residency the OMFS resident will spend time in numerous areas including anesthesiology, internal medicine, emergency medicine, general surgery, otolaryngology (ENT), and neurosurgery, among others. In addition, an intense concentration is placed on developing expertise and experience in surgery relating to the mouth, jaws, and face. Upon graduation, an oral surgeon then becomes eligible to become a Diplomate of The American Board of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery or "board certified."  This process requires hard work, dedication, and multiple examinations. The status of board certified is evidence that the oral surgeon has met the highest requirements of competence within the field of OMFS. Dr. Shrewsberry's board certification indicates that he brings the highest level of care to the patients of Huntsville Oral Surgery.

Patient Testimonials

"As a person that is extremely terrified of dental visits I wish I could rate my services as 10 star. The staff is fabulous, and my oral surgery was much easier than I anticipated. Post surgery was exactly as I was told it would be, and as a final "way to go" in service, Dr Shrewsberry called to check in post op instead of relying on his wonderful nurses to relay info to him. I would recommend him and his services to anybody and everybody."

"Dr. Shrewsberry's office is always very inviting and the staff are amazing, as well as Dr. Shrewsberry. I wouldn't go anywhere else to have services done."

Jessica S.

"This place is great. Being a student in Huntsville I wasn't too sure where to go to get my procedure done. I stumbled into Huntsville Oral Surgery to get a tooth pulled and do a full implant, and they did a great job. From the ladies at the front desk to the assistants and Dr. Shrewsberry they were all great.

I would recommend this place to anyone."
